Sports Medicine

Getting injured on the field is likely, especially if you don’t stretch or warm-up. Many athletes run out on the field and end up sitting on the bench shortly after. Don’t let this be you! If you take part in sports, having a doctor who offers sports medicine services is essential.

At Carolina Health & Aesthetics, we do just that. Many sports leagues require that you get a physical before the start of the season. As a member of our direct primary care office, you can receive one at no extra charge beyond your monthly care fee. We also treat sports-related injuries and offer advice on how to prevent them in the first place.

What Is Sports Medicine?

Simply put, sports medicine deals with the treatment and prevention of sports injuries. You don’t have to be a big-name professional athlete to get treated. Injuries can happen at any time, to anyone, and having a doctor on standby is the best-case scenario when they do. Our direct primary care model means that you can reach us at any time if you have an injury, even after hours! Injuries we can address:
  • Ankle sprains
  • Fractures
  • Knee and shoulder injuries
  • Tendonitis
  • Exercise-induced asthma
  • Heatstroke
  • Dehydration
  • Cartilage injuries
We also offer sports physicals to make sure your body is ready for game time. When you become a member of Carolina Health & Aesthetics, these and many other services will be provided at no extra cost.

When Should Sports Injuries be Addressed?

In some cases, a sprained ankle can be treated at home. In other cases, such as when your pain persists for several days, medical care may be needed. The good news is that you can always reach our team, no matter the scenario. Often, a simple phone call with Dr. Bowers, or another member of our team, can give you all you need to treat your injury yourself. If you need to come in, we can accommodate you the same day or the next day.

Can’t I Just Walk it Off?

No! Walking on an injured ankle or foot can do further damage, depending on the problem. Likewise, if you injure your arm or hit your head, you should seek treatment as soon as possible. At best, the R.I.C.E. method can sometimes be a good call after an injury.

  • Rest
  • Ice
  • Compression
  • Elevation

This is helpful for a sprain, strain, or other similar injuries. But since you’re often unsure of what the damage is, it’s best to give our office a call.
